Paintings by James P Corp
Born in 1946 in Buffalo, New York, I have been painting for over six decades. My work is rooted in a deep fascination with the natural world — the quiet drama of fields and horizons, the intricate dance of flowers and pollinators, the layered play of light and texture, and the enduring pull of the sea.
After earning a BA in Art Education from Buffalo State College and spending time in the MFA program at Ohio State, I taught art while continuing to develop my own voice. Over the years my practice has moved through different explorations, but it has always returned to nature as both subject and inspiration.
Today I work from my studio in Ithaca, New York. The paintings on this site reflect my ongoing interest in observation, light, color, and the emotional resonance of the landscapes and moments that surround us. Whether working with acrylic on canvas or my earlier tissue paper process, I aim to capture a sense of wonder and quiet strength in the world around us.
